Just wanted to let all of our parents and friends know that we have safely arrived in Greece. After a few flights some layovers and one big headache in Turkey we have endured each other in true Canadain style. We are off to the camp this afternoon. This morning we were able to walk through Greece a bit and visit the Acropolis. What A sight!!!! Jordan lead us through Acts 17:16-34. It was a great way to start our time here, with some unbelievable mental pictures. It was a great time to look at Greece through the eyes of one of my favorite men. Thank for all your prayers. Talk to you all soon
Kurtis
Thanks for posting, Kurtis!I guess you ALL made it to Athens somehow :-)
ReplyDeletePraying for everyone, have a great time!
Glad to hear you made it there safely.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that you had time to visit the Acropolis and do a bit of sightseeing. By now you will be at the camp. We'll be praying for your settling in and getting established there. Friday night we had to use the heater in the trailer overnight! Bet it is warmer in Greece than Alberta ... Nora
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you all arrived safely! You're probably getting settled into camp by now. Thank you for the update Kurtis, for keeping us posted. You are all in our prayers -
ReplyDeleteHeather & Peter
So glad you made it there. We know you will make us and God proud. Serve well friends.

Hi all
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your next entry: what you're learning, what you're doing, how's the food, the weather, the experience...we pray that everyone is healthy and happy.
Great to hear the team made it. We will continue to keep you in our prayers.

Glad you arrived safe! Your all in my prayers!
ReplyDeleteHey. What's happening over there? I keep checking - but no update. Barry
ReplyDeleteHas anyone heard anything at all from the team since Kurtis' post on the 4th?
ReplyDeleteWe keep checking throughout the day as well.... so anxious to hear what is going on. Aside from missing Cassidy, we love to be able to pray specifically for the needs of the team and the people they are serving. It sure helps us all to feel connected. So...get blogging Kurtis :)

Yes, it would be good to hear from the team so we know everything is okay - so hopefully we'll hear VERY SOON, please.
ReplyDeleteHi Family and friends of our team!
ReplyDeleteI just got off the phone with Ifie Janzen (for those of you who don't know Ifie she is the one that made the amazing Greek salad and tzatkiki for the Gala) Her brother Jonathan is the director of the camp in Greece. She spoke to him a few nights ago and he went on and on about how blessed they are to have our team at the camp. He said to her "the spirit of the Lord is evident in those kids" and he is really impressed with Jordan and Julie as well. This is the largest teen camp they have ever had, with 94 kids and there are 35 North Americans helping (including our team of 14) They are working hard and all doing well, inspite of the high 30 degree temps!!! Ifie will be speaking to her brother again late tonight so will call me tomorrow to share what he has to report. I am sure it is difficult to communicate from the camp (Ifie just calls her brother on his cell phone) so we mustn't be too hard on Kurtis :)Have a blessed day everyone knowing our kids are blessing those they come in contact with, and God is doing great things to and through our kids!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sheryl. When Pastor Barry typed, "hey, what's happening over there?" I felt relief-that's really what I wanted to say, but didn't want to appear the over-protective parent, once again. I've been checking multiple times daily, too. I began thinking that if they are not on the Greece electrical grid (hence the flashlites needed) and ferried out to a remote island, maybe that was the reason for no up-dates. That's what I was reasurring myself with anyways-that and extra prayers. I'm so grateful that someone has a lifeline. And I'm so pleased to hear about the team's work. Good for them. Take care all.
ReplyDeleteYes, thank you Sheryl for your update and your communication with Ifie. It's good to hear all is well and that God is doing great things, like you said Sheryl, to and through our kids!

ReplyDeleteI think this is the camp...

Thanks for the updates - however they come. Great to hear they are being used of God. We are praying for the group as well. Remember when we were teens? How often did we think to "contact" parents at an exciting week, or three, of our lives? Rebecca said they only have power certain times of the day, and that is with a generater so I may not hear from her via internet.

Ifie called tonight excited to share what Jonathan had told her about our amazing team! He kept talking about what a huge blessing they have been and he said he is "floored" with this team and the staff and teens are all blessed by their service. He talked about one of the cooks in the kitchen who just wept as she talked about how overwhelmed she had been with the help she has received from those from our team who have been helping in the kitchen. He also talked about one of the campers who has Cerebral Palsy and how our team has taken her under their wing. He described their acts of service as "walking proof of God in their lives". The girl's name is Helen and he requested prayer for her. He also asked for prayer for the teens (the Greeks) as they are entering a crucial time at the camp. They have been challenged to go full out for God and there are spiritual battles going on as they wrestle with the challenge. The staff and team are spending a lot of time over the next day praying for what Jonathan called "a spiritual breakthrough" and asked us to join them. They are preparing for a baptism service on Sunday. Ifie was madly jotting down notes as she talked to her brother and I was doing the same as she was sharing with me, so we obviously have lots of "gaps" but the bottom line is: God IS using our amazing team as we knew He would and they are blessing the staff and campers alike. We can be sure that they are being blessed even more as they learn and serve. As many of us guessed...they are having trouble with the internet as service has been down, but Ifie plans on talking to her brother regularly so we can be updated with how to pray. Goodnight all...
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to hear that our young people are being a blessing, and yet not a surprise. We have seen and heard of their commitment to minister to the people at this camp over the past months of preparation and I know that this is only a small representation of the impact that they will have on people they encounter throughout their lives. As the Greek youth struggle to decide to "go full out for God", I know the challenge will be extended to our kids, too.Our prayers are for a deepened relationship with God and a strengthened decision to live for Christ. It was so good to have an update - thanks Sheryl
